Unfinished, Clear Finishing, Priming, and Painting
When it comes to finishing options, Scherr’s offers wider variety of options than most cabinet shops. That’s because we are truly a custom cabinet shop. If you do not see a color, stain, or finishing option that you prefer, it never hurts to ask us if what you want is possible. We can’t do everything, but we can honor some unique requests. We’d love to hear from you either way. These options are available in both our custom cabinetry and classic series doors.
Unfinished (Ready to be Finished)
Receive our classic series doors and cabinets unfinished. This option gives you the freedom to finish the product yourself or have a third party professional do the finishing for you. We do not recommend leaving your doors and cabinets unfinished. If you order unfinished doors and cabinets be prepared to store them properly and have a plan ready to have them finished quickly. Lead time for unfinished projects is typically significantly shorter than painted and clear finished projects.
Paint grade doors are typically made from either Poplar or Soft Maple and their panels made from MDF. Paint grade cabinet components are typically made from Maple Plywood, Birch Plywood, and MDF (depending on the application/component). We will have any unfinished items finish sanded ready for finishing when you receive these items.
Clear Finished (Satin Sheen)
Let us clear finish our classic series doors and cabinets for you. Our clear finish is a waterborne acrylic finish called Sayerlack Hydroplus from Sherwin Williams. Hydroplus Waterborne Clear is low in VOC content and is UL Greenguard Gold certified for low chemical emissions.
Staining is available in oak, alder, and a couple other wood species with certain Sherwin Williams products. There are some woods that we will not stain such as maple, birch, cherry, and pine. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
Primed Only (Ready to be Painted)
Receive our classic series doors and cabinets primed only. Components will receive universal primer completely covering the parts on your order. Our primer coat will be in white, if you need the primer to be a different color, let us know. This option is good if you intend to paint the components yourself or have a third party do the painting for you. Priming your doors and cabinet components helps to protect them from some environmental factors. A person should still always exercise caution to store doors and cabinet components properly in order to protect them from environmental damage. You will want to lightly sand the primer coat before applying the top coat of paint over the primer.
Extra White or Dover White (Satin Sheen)
Let us paint our classic series doors and cabinets in one of our two beautiful standard white options. We use top of the line waterborne paint that sprays on beautifully, cures incredibly hard, and stays durable. Our paint is a waterborne acrylic polyurethane paint called Sayerlack Hydroplus from Sherwin Williams. Our paint is low in VOC content and is UL Greenguard Gold Certified for low chemical emissions.
Our cabinet shop keeps two white paints on hand, they are Sherwin Williams Extra White SW 7006 and Dover White SW 6385. The whites are both shown in the image to the left (Extra White on the left and Dover White on the right.) Extra White is considered a pure white and Dover White is a warm creamy white.
Custom Paint (Satin Sheen)
We can paint almost any paint color with our Sayerlack Hydroplus from Sherwin Williams for our classic series doors and cabinets. Hydroplus Waterborne Paint is low in VOC content and is UL Greenguard Gold certified for low chemical emissions.
We can paint any standard Sherwin Williams paint color. Please visit their website to find the color you’re looking for, or go to a Sherwin Williams store near you.
If you need to match a paint we can do that as well. We need to have a chip or sample piece sent to us in order to run a color match. Do not attempt to find a match on your own. A proper match must be formulated specifically for our paint system. Contact us for more information when it comes to custom paint colors.
