What makes Scherr’s different
Many customers want the look and features of high end custom frameless cabinets while saving money by assembling parts themselves. Scherr’s builds truly custom, ready‑to‑assemble cabinet boxes with our “Cabinets Assembled By You” cabinet line. This gets you precision machining, matching materials, and a higher level of construction than typical mass market RTA kits. Our cabinets are custom made to fit your kitchen right in our shop and this all happens after you place your order with us.
We also sell custom doors, and dovetail drawer boxes to the exact sizes you need them made at. This allows you to reface your existing cabinets and for any other custom projects if you are looking to only order doors and drawer boxes. Don’t forget you can also fit our doors and drawer boxes on IKEA cabinetry as well for a high quality look that you just can’t get when using IKEA fronts on their cabinets.
How do I get a prices or request a quote
Because everything is custom, we need your project details to generate an accurate quote. Use the online quote form or send measurements and specifications by email, phone, or fax. You can always email us drawings and lists of what you would like quoted. After you email us, if we need more details before we can work up a quote, we will contact you and let you know. If you are using our fronts for IKEA cabinets feel free to click here for more information about sending your informations over for a quote for an IKEA setup. The quote process is free and carries no obligation.
When ordering just doors and drawer boxes we go off of overall finished dimensions. We do not go off cabinet opening sizes. We can help figure the door sizes you need to go with if you do not know the exact door sizes you need to order.

Cabinets and installation
Our cabinets are “Ready to Assemble”. We just hate to associate our Cabinets Assembled By You line with the term RTA because the quality difference in your average RTA cabinet kit compared to our own is a world apart. Our cabinets are truly custom, built based on your input and instruction. The quality and workmanship of our cabinets keep our customers and contractors coming back over and over for each new project.
You choose the core material. Options include a heavy 45 lb industrial board with melamine surface or a premium veneer surface. Melamine surfaces are durable and water resistant. Finished ends are built into our cabinets on exposed cabinet sides that match the material and finish of the fronts. Cabinet boxes use 3/4″ material for sides, tops, floors, and shelves. Assemblies use solid wood dowels and confirmat screws for strength and stability.
Our cabinets work for all kinds of spaces not just for kitchens. Here are just some examples bathrooms, laundry rooms, entertainment centers, offices, bedrooms, closets, libraries, and shop or garage settings.
Cabinets are not difficult to assemble. Cabinets arrive pre‑drilled and labeled. Dowels are pre‑glued so you only need water to activate them. Doors and drawer fronts are pre‑drilled for hinges and hardware. Basic hand tools and a helper for heavy parts are usually sufficient when it comes to installing our cabinets. We supply assembly hardware and instructions and offer phone and email support as well.
Frameless Cabinets
What we build are frameless cabinetry. There are two different types of kitchen cabinets that are available with either frameless cabinetry and face frame cabinetry. We do not build any face frame cabinetry.
A face frame cabinet has a framed front attached to the cabinet box. The frame provides a visible border around each cabinet opening and is the traditional American style.
A frameless cabinet has no front frame. The cabinet box itself forms the opening and the door mounts directly to the box. This is often called European style. This style has become much more popular over time and creates a cleaner look since the fronts cover pretty much the entire cabinet box when installed.
What affects cost
Material and style choices, finishing, hardware, shipping, project complexity, and any extra features you want included all affect price. There is a lot that goes into pricing each project we do. It’s best to get a quote to see if the pricing for a project. If there are multiple options you are considering , let us know and we can price out the different options into the quote.
Molding and special cases
Trim, fillers, and moldings made alongside your cabinets and doors give the best match in species, grain, and profile. You can check out our molding options by clicking here.
If you need a profile or molding we do not stock, we can often source compatible pieces from outside manufacturers and finish them alongside your order. We are also very custom and we can do a lot custom work not showing on our website. You can always ask us about something you are interested in doing for a project, and we can see if we can help you out.
Shipping and packaging
Shipping price depends on distance and project size. Large parts or heavy orders typically ship freight and will add extra cost for shipping out an order. We calculate shipping when preparing your estimate and we will include any shipping costs in the quote we send you.
When shipping through a freight service parts are wrapped in cardboard and foam, palletized, shrink wrapped, and strapped. Very large parts may be crated for extra protection. If the order is small enough we will ship through a ground shipping service instead. For this option we will custom build the boxes to fit snug with the parts and include extra packing materials to help prevent any shipping damage in transit.
You are responsible for checking the parts for damage when the shipment arrives. We will provide detailed instructions through email for when you receive a shipment on what to do when it comes to shipping damage. Following these instructions on your end allows us to make any remake items for you as fast as possible.
Samples
Sample doors and drawer boxes can be ordered right on our website by clicking here. Samples are not available in custom sizes. We can supply a small selection of paints and finishes on samples as well to try out. If you just want to see our finish options or specific wood species you can order these as sample blocks on the sample page as well.
Payment
We require payment before an order is released to production. Accepted payment methods include all major credit cards. We also accept checks and the check will need to go through the bank before we release an order into production. Large orders may have different arrangements which are discussed individually.
For general orders any order under $500 will be charged out before the order ships out. Any orders over $500 we charge a half down depot to get on our schedule and the remaining balance is charged out before we ship out the order.
